The history of alternative dress, where it fits in modern society and why more people should dress alternatively. 

Chapter outline:

1. What is alternative dress?

Definition; the modern mindset towards alternative dress and 'standing out' in general; the relationship between the self and clothing.

2. The history of alternative dress.

From the beginning of time to the early 20th century. What fashion conformity looked like; fashion developments; famous eccentrics and alternative dressers.

3. Modern alternative dress & subcultures.

Beatniks, hippies, punks etc.

4. Why you should dress alternatively.

How to dress according to your own style; accessible ways to dress alternatively; tips on sewing and altering to make your own unique wardrobe.

Audience:

Those with an interest in history and the mindset that goes into being 'different'.

Author biography:

Aisha Miljan is a qualified seamstress with a BA (Hons) in Costume and Performance Design from Arts University Bournemouth. She started Perfect Little Parcel in 2015 and has completed custom orders for individual clients all over the world. She started wearing her own handmade historical wardrobe in 2020 and hasn’t looked back since.
